Five Catches Seems Like Nothing For Streaking Trey McBride

Tight end poised to pass Fitz's team record against Buccaneers

Trey McBride has had at least five receptions in every game this season, which given his importance to the offense, should not be a surprise. He also has at least seven targets each game.

That the Pro Bowl tight end -- who leads all NFL tight ends in receptions and yards this season -- has now compiled a streak that seems destined to go down as a franchise record also isn't a surprise. His five-catch streak is at 13 games overall, stretching back into last season, which tied Larry Fitzgerald's Cardinals record. He can surpass the future Hall of Famer Sunday in Tampa.

McBride also tied Travis Kelce and Tony Gonzalez for the second-longest such streak in the NFL ever for a tight end, with only a second Kelce streak of 15 ahead of him. The next three games for the Cardinals -- and McBride's defenders -- will be against the Bucs, Rams and Texans. (Those last two defenses are no joke.)

"It's impressive mostly because there have been a lot of great tight ends who have played in this league," offensive coordinator Drew Petzing said. "By that nature alone of you are doing something other guys haven't done for an extended period of time, that's impressive."

McBride's latest hot streak -- 28 catches over the last three games -- has put him on pace to surpass the stats he put up last season. After 17 games, McBride would have 124 catches, 1,232 yards and 11 touchdowns. So yeah, the Cardinals are going to throw him the ball, regardless of any streak.

"It's never crossed my brain," Petzing said. "I want him to touch the ball more than five times every game regardless of the streak. I'd like for him to touch it 10 times or 15 times because he is as talented as he is and plays the game the way he does and has such a big impact for us."
