Before the schedule drops this afternoon -- and if you look hard enough out on the interwebs, you can already find a couple of games, reportedly -- I found it interesting in this Pro Football Focus article about the most underrated player from each team.
For the Cardinals, PFF went with cornerback Garrett Williams, which makes sense. For one, PFF is going to use its grading system, and Williams was excellent in that regard in 2024, with a 83.7 coverage grade ranking him second in the NFL among slot cornerbacks, and he was seventh-best in the slot allowing touchdowns.
Part of this choice is the national perspective of the Cardinals I'm sure. Outside of Arizona (or Cardinals fans), not many are going to know Williams for a multitude of reasons. I do think he is underrated.
But is he the most underrated Cardinal? That can be discussed. Among those I would consider in that debate: Trey McBride, believe it or not -- before his new contract, I'm not sure he was nationally seen like he should be. Mack Wilson Sr. perhaps. Hjalte Froholdt? Paris Johnson Jr.?
Again, I'm not saying any of them should be ahead of Williams for this specific title. But it makes for good discussion, as we sit here in mid-May with real football still a few months away.
