With Christian Kirk sitting out for now and the Cardinals looking for an extra set of hands in the receivers room, the team signed Greg Dortch on Tuesday.

Dortch, 5-foot-7 and 175 pounds, has had mostly practice squad stints with the Jets, Rams, Panthers and Falcons since coming into the league in 2019, and was an All-American at Wake Forest for his punt return skills. In his two NFL games, he has four punt returns and five kickoff returns.

The Cardinals also activated safety Shawn Williams off the Non-Football Injury list. Williams has yet to practice in camp.

The Cardinals are trying to figure out their return game now. Second-round pick Rondale Moore is a top candidate, although special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers said the positions will be figured out as preseason games are played and candidates can be seen in action, especially on punt returns.

"That ball is in the air a heck of a lot longer in the NFL than West Lafayette," Rodgers quipped.

Moore attended Purdue, located in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Kirk is sidelined with a "minor deal," coach Kliff Kingsbury said, declining to be specific about the injury. Fellow receiver Rico Gafford has spent most of camp on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, while Andy Isabella and KeeSean Johnson just came off the list. The Cardinals also want to be mindful of the amount of reps given to veterans DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green.
