The Cardinals will open in St. Louis to begin the 2013 season and host Detroit in their home opener a week later, according to the NFL schedule that was officially released Thursday.

The team's lone national TV game will be a Thursday night NFL Network contest at University of Phoenix Stadium against NFC West rival Seattle on Oct. 17 – just four days after the Cardinals have to visit the other NFC West favorite 49ers in San Francisco.

Three of the first four games under new Head Coach Bruce Arians are on the road. After playing the Rams and the Lions, the Cards

have back-to-back trips to New Orleans Sept. 22 and Tampa Bay Sept. 29. Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers visit Oct. 6 before the 49ers/Seahawks games.

The Cards then host the Atlanta Falcons Oct. 27 before enjoying their bye week.

After the break, the Cardinals host Houston Nov. 10 and then travel to Jacksonville Nov. 17.

The much-anticipated Arians reunion against the Indianapolis Colts comes Nov. 24 at University of Phoenix Stadium, before a road trip to Philadelphia Dec. 1. The Cards have two NFC West home games in December, against the Rams Dec. 8 and in the season finale against the 49ers, and between those go on the road to Tennessee Dec. 15 and Seattle Dec. 22.

The Cardinals travel almost 23,000 miles to road games this season (Click here for a road game infographic.)

The preseason schedule was also officially set. The Cards open Aug. 9 in Green Bay, play a day game Aug. 17 at home against Dallas (with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff), host San Diego and former coach Ken Whisenhunt Aug. 24 and close the preseason at Denver Aug. 29.
