The Cardinals have a new international player on the practice squad.
Defensive lineman Denzel Daxon was signed to their exemption spot after the team released offensive lineman Roy Mbaeteka on Tuesday.
The Cardinals also signed linebacker Jared Bartlett to fill out the lone remaining practice squad spot.
Daxon came to the United States in 2016 from the Bahamas to play his senior year of high school (a player can not have more than two years of high school in the United States to be considered for the international exemption). The 6-foot-2, 320-pound nose tackle spent four seasons at Ohio University before his final season at Illinois. In 2023, he started 11 games at nose tackle and finished the season with 27 tackles and was teammates with current Cardinals Isaiah Adams and Tip Reiman.
Daxon spent the 2024 season on the Cowboys practice squad and was cut by the Cowboys recently at the end of the preseason.
Unlike previous years, the internationally exempted player is eligible to be elevated to play in a game like anyone else on the practice squad.
Bartlett has bounced around the football landscape as well. The linebacker played college football at West Virginia and University of Cincinnati. He had career highs with 69 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks last year. Bartlett had offseason stints this year with the Jets and Packers.
