Cardinals Make Moves To Reach 53-Man Roster

The Cardinals, for now, have set their roster.

Whether that means it'll be the same 53-man roster by the time practice resumes Monday is unknown – and probably unlikely. But it's been pared for Saturday's deadline. Running back Chris Johnson wasn’t the only veteran casualty. The Cards also let linebacker Scooby Wright – pushed down the depth chart when veteran Josh Bynes was signed – and wide receivers Jeremy Ross go. Also cut was fourth-round draft pick and guard Dorian Johnson, who struggled in

camp and the preseason.

Among the players who are on the roster, at least at the moment: Punter Matt Wile, and reserve offensive linemen Daniel Munyer and Ulrick John. The Cardinals also have only three outside linebackers on the roster at the moment, and five inside linebackers after keeping both Bynes and Philip Wheeler.

The Cardinals had to shave 36 players off the roster going into the weekend. They traded offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom to Baltimore Friday.

The Cardinals reached injury settlements with linebacker Jarvis Jones and linebacker Tre'Von Johnson. They waived/injured defensive tackle Ed Stinson, and placed wide receiver Aaron Dobson on injured reserve.

The Cardinals kept running back T.J. Logan, who is recovering from wrist surgery, on the active roster for now because they want to bring him back later in the season. Coach Bruce Arians had indicated earlier the team would put him on injured reserve, but any player put on IR at the 53-man deadline was not eligible to return. Logan could be put on IR beginning Sunday and come back.

Players with fewer than four accrued seasons are now subject to waivers and can be claimed by any team. Once players clear waivers, they can be re-signed to the 10-man practice squad.
