That first drive the Cardinals had Sunday provided hope that eventually was dashed, but it left an impact -- or rather, Trey McBride left one.
The tight end's 25-yard catch-and-bully-run was an immediate jump start to the game on the first possession. And not surprisingly, it caught the eye of "Good Morning Football" host Kyle Brandt for his weekly "Angry Runs" segment.
McBride did not take home the coveted scepter -- that went to Tampa Bay's Rachaad White -- but the Pro Bowler has been a favorite of Brandt's. McBride was nominated a couple of times last season, and won the award in the final game of 2024.
Brandt even made sure to show off his Chad Burns original (thanks Chad!) painting showing Brandt and McBride in an imaginary "Predator" meeting. McBride, meanwhile, is rumbling toward all kinds of records, with his 93 catches and 937 yards. The Cardinals' franchise record for receptions in a season is 115 by DeAndre Hopkins, so McBride is closing in on that, and the NFL record for catches in a season by a tight end is 116 by Zach Ertz (in his Philly days), so that too is on line.
Could McBride still end up with an Angry Runs win this season? Never say never. McBride is certainly going to play in a way that gives him a chance.
