James Conner was officially put on Injured Reserve on Tuesday with his foot injury, which was not a surprise.
Perhaps more of one was filling his roster spot with offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs, who had been on the team's practice squad.
Jacobs played 15 games for the Patriots as a rookie in 2024, and 13 of them were starts at right tackle. But with left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. dealing with a knee issue that already kept him out of Sunday's game in San Francisco, getting Jacobs on the roster can provide a failsafe of depth. Tackle Kelvin Beachum, who started for Johnson against the 49ers, is also on the injury report with a knee problem.
The Cardinals still have one open spot on the 53-man roster.
The team also re-signed linebacker Elliott Brown to the practice squad and signed safety Patrick McMorris to the practice squad. To make room, they released defensive lineman Kyon Barrs from the practice squad.
With the current moves, the Cardinals now have just three running backs on the roster: Trey Benson, Emari Demercado and Bam Knight. Michael Carter remains available to elevate from the practice squad.
Conner, meanwhile, made an appearance in the locker room on Tuesday, moving around with the leg with his injured foot propped up on a scooter.
"Tough to replace my dog," quarterback Kyler Murray said. "Everything he does on the field, the little nuances of the game, his feel for the game that may go unnoticed, that you can't coach, that he does and people don't really realize.
"Just his presence in the huddle, in the locker room, you can't really replace that. For real."
