LaFleur, Cardinals Don't Have Clarity On Kyler Murray Future Yet

Head coach said he's still working on how he will organize his team

The work is just beginning for Mike LaFleur when it comes to organizing the Cardinals under his watch.

But one of the biggest questions looming remains without an answer: What is the plan for quarterback Kyler Murray.

LaFleur, speaking ahead of the introductory press conferences of his coordinators on Wednesday, was asked about Murray but didn't have any clarity.

"Just like everything else on the roster, open conversations in this building," LaFleur said. "No timeframe on that."

The subject will come up again in Indianapolis next week again in front of the national NFL media at the Scouting combine. LaFleur is expected to speak again on Tuesday.

LaFleur mostly spoke about his coordinators on Wednesday, but did briefly speak on a couple of other subjects.

  • On maneuvering through the staff hiring process despite being one of the later head coach hires himself: "There are so many good coaches out there. You lose one, but sometimes when you lose one, man, it might be the best thing that could ever happen because you end up finding the next one who is a better fit for us. You learn some things you might otherwise not have learned. There are challeges but I can flip it and say it's actually a good thing too."
  • He said "we're close" to filling out the coaching staff."
  • On getting down his schedule and how things will run under his charge, LaFleur said it's still a work in progress this early in the process. "Organically we are going to be evolving. This is a different setup than the Rams. ... I have a good idea to how I want this thing to flow but don't hold me to an exact minute yet."
Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Mike LaFleur speaks to the media on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2026 at the Dignity Health Training Center in Tempe, AZ.
