Cardinals Elevate Jace Whittaker To Help With Cornerback Depth

Team also elevates tight end Travis, offensive lineman Isidora

The Cardinals are banged up at cornerback, but perhaps the issues aren't as concerning after the team's Saturday roster moves only included one defensive back.

Cornerback Jace Whittaker was brought up from the practice squad as a Covid replacement for tight end Darrell Daniels. The other two standard practice squad elevations were tight end Ross Travis and offensive lineman Danny Isidora.

Top cornerback Byron Murphy is out for Sunday's game against the 49ers, and two other top four cornerbacks -- Marco Wilson (ankle) and Antonio Hamilton (ankle) were listed as questionable. But with Whittaker the lone defensive back called up, it would seem to bode well for Wilson and Hamilton to join veteran Robert Alford.

The Cardinals also have flexibility with coverage skills from linebacker Isaiah Simmons and safeties Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson.

The 49ers have to start rookie quarterback Trey Lance, which could impact how much the Cards' pass defense has to do in the first place. Top offensive weapon tight end George Kittle won't play either, going on injured reserve Saturday because of a calf injury.
