For the second consecutive day, the Cardinals signed a cornerback.
The team added Keni-H Lovely, a defensive back who most recently played in the UFL with the Michigan Panthers. The Cardinals had an open roster spot available.
Lovely played in nine games for the Panthers, recording three starts, and finished with 26 tackles, nine pass breakups, and a pick-six. Since the UFL season ended, Lovely reportedly had workouts with other NFL teams. The Western Michigan product was also a part of the Bills roster during the 2024 preseason.
The UFL has been a league the Cardinals have had their eye on in recent weeks, working out multiple players as training camp loomed. On the morning before camp, the team signed defensive lineman Kyon Barrs, who was needed after defensive lineman Walter Nolen III and Bilal Nichols were placed on the PUP list. On Sunday, following the news of Starling Thomas V's torn ACL, UFL cornerback Steven Gilmore was brought in.
The trajectory of the cornerback room certainly changes with Thomas done for the season. Cornerback Max Melton likely slides into a full-time starting role. And corner Garrett Williams spent chunks of practice on Sunday lined up as an outside corner. When second-rounder Will Johnson plays on defense, Williams slides into the nickel role.
