Joey Blount is an important part of the Cardinals' special teams, so much so that he was named a captain this season.
But now, Blount is done for the season, headed to Injured Reserve on Tuesday with the neck injury he suffered against the Saints in the season opener.
"His roles on game day will have to be absorbed by multiple people," coach Jonathan Gannon said.
Wide receiver Simi Fehoko, a special-teams standout himself, has been signed from the practice squad to replace Blount on the 53-man roster. Fehoko was a player many thought would've made the 53-man roster originally. He had a good preseason and is expected to fill some of the holes Blount's absence creates.
To replace Fehoko on the practice squad, the Cardinals signed linebacker Channing Tindall, a 2022 third-round pick of the Dolphins. Tindall played the last three seasons in Miami before being released in August.
Gannon said the other injuries the Cardinals suffered in the opener are "bumps and bruises." Linebacker Cody Simon suffered a concussion the same play in which Blount got hurt -- the two hit the Saints return man at the same time -- and his status is TBD.
