Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was already ruled out for the season finale in Los Angeles, but the Cardinals put an exclamation point on that Friday by putting Harrison on Injured Reserve.
Harrison, dealing with a heel injury on one leg and a foot injury on the other, was clearly having issues just walking when he was seen in the locker room on Wednesday. His second season ends with 41 receptions, 608 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.
He was hobbled last week in Cincinnati and he was targeted only once, being held without a catch for the first time this season.
"I thought he did some good things (this season)," coach Jonathan Gannon said. "We moved him around the formation. He scored points for us. He got open, caught it. I don't think he's hit his ceiling, and I look forward to the future with that."
Injuries undercut Harrison's entire season. He had seemingly hit his stride, totaling 10 receptions for 164 yards in back-to-back games against the Seahawks and Titans before suffering a concussion against the Colts. He had appendix surgery soon after, forcing him to miss a couple of games, and then on his return -- a six-reception day in Tampa -- he hurt his heel.
Playing with that issue, he hurt his foot in Cincinnati last week, knocking him out for good.
As for Harrison's attempt to reach his playing ceiling, Gannon deferred such conversation.
"We will talk about that later," Gannon said. "I'm not in the mental space right now thinking about development of players as we move forward. I'm trying to stay focused on the Rams."
