Reports: Cardinals Getting Edge Rusher In Devon Kennard

As time marches on and the Cardinals (reportedly) continue to add to their roster, there were more reports Wednesday that the Cardinals will be adding outside linebacker Devon Kennard, who was just released by the Detroit Lions. Kennard had seven sacks in both 2019 and 2018 for the Lions, after signing in Detroit following a stint with the Giants. New York originally drafted Kennard in the fifth round in 2014. Kennard is the son of former Cardinals offensive lineman Derek Kennard, and attended nearby Desert Vista High School (where he went to school with our own Lisa Matthews.)

The Cardinals need outside linebackers as free agency opened Wednesday. Under contract right now besides Chandler Jones and his 19 sacks are Haason Reddick, Vontarrius Dora and Kylie Fitts.

The only Cardinal free agent who (reportedly) thus far is signing elsewhere is wide receiver Damiere Byrd, who is headed to New England. The Cardinals are (reportedly) acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and a fourth-round pick in a trade from the Texans for running back David Johnson, a second-round pick and a 2021 fourth-round pick. They are also (reportedly) supposed to sign former Bills defensive lineman Jordan Phillips.
